Below are two videos outlining the issues with Audi A4 A6 and A8 timing chain tensioners. The chain tensioners are very similar when comparing the 1.8, 2.7T, 2.8 and 4.2. When you begin to hear a groaning or clicking noise from the top of the aluminum valve cover, it is a sign one of the tensioners is going. Typically when one tensioner is having issues, the other tensioner is not far behind. One video explains what causes the noise and the other points out where each tensioner is located.
